Resumo: A survey of the attitude towards a health center was made among a sample of inhabitants of two districts of S. Paulo city (Brazil). Indirect Questioning was carried out using an attitude scale created after Thurstone & Chave. Reliability tests made it possible to reduce the original scale from 55 to 24 items which can eventually be utilized in further surveys. The statements of the scale comprised 4 areas considered to be basic for the conceptual definition of attitudes regarding a health center: relationship between physician and patient; relationship between non-medical staff and patient; efficiency of services provided; and the physical and social milieu.

Foi estudada a atitude em relação a um centro de saúde, em amostra da população residente em dois bairros centrais do Município de São Paulo (Brasil), utilizando-se questionamento indireto - uma escala de atitudes construída pelo método Thurstone & Chave. Após aplicação de testes de fidedignidade e depuração, a escala original de 55 itens pôde ser reduzida a uma escala de 24 itens, que poderá ser aplicada a outros estudos. As afirmações da escala cobriram 4 áreas de conteúdo consideradas essenciais para definição conceitual da atitude em relação a centro de saúde: relação médico-paciente; relação pessoal para-médico e auxiliar-paciente; eficiência dos serviços prestados; e ambiente físico e social.
