Resumo: As part of a participative research experiment carried out within the context of the Itapecerica da Serra Teaching and Services Program, a first preliminary meeting, which brought together a Health Center and associations of mothers of Itapecerica da Serra county, SP (Brazil) and an academic institution was held. In order to prevent the imposition of power relationships, by those who had academic and tecnical knowledge upon the community, a proceeding called "strategy of silence" was chosen for the aforementioned meeting. The power relationships pre-existent both in culture and society were discussed by the three groups in such a way as to make people aware of the problems. Some methodological considerations were raised, specially those related to the opportunities opened up by the participant research concerning the subject-object relationship in social research as well as the problems of output in this kind of research.

Como parte de uma experiência de Pesquisa Participante levada a cabo no contexto do Projeto de Integração Docente-Assistencial Itapecerica da Serra, foi realizada uma primeira reunião envolvendo um Centro de Saúde e clubes de mães do Município de Itapecerica da Serra, SP (Brasil) e uma instituição de ensino e pesquisa. Com vistas a prevenir, desde o início da pesquisa, o poder daqueles que detêm o conhecimento acadêmico e técnico, frente à comunidade, foi adotada, nesta primeira reunião, um procedimento chamado "Estratégia do Silêncio". As relações de poder preexistentes na cultura e na sociedade foram discutidas pelos três grupos permitindo com isso uma primeira tomada de consciência do problema. Algumas considerações de ordem metodológica foram levantadas, especialmente no que concerne às oportunidades abertas pela pesquisa participante no que se refere às relações sujeito-objeto da pesquisa social, bem como no que toca aos resultados práticos (ou retornos) deste tipo de pesquisa.
