Práticas terapêuticas entre idosos de Porto Alegre: uma abordagem qualitativa

Summary: This study had as its main objective to know, comprehend and analyze the use of therapeutic practices among elders who live in urban areas. With a qualitative approach, this research was carried out in the eastern part of the city of Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul. It processed the socio-demographic characterization of 24 elders randomly chosen and the analysis of the information collected from them regarding the use of therapeutic practices. The elders interviewed were in their majority female, 68-years old in average, with four years of schooling. The main therapeutic practice mentioned by the interviewees was self-medication.Another therapeutic practice that was mentioned is the visit to a health professional. The study considers that through the analysis and critical discussion of the theme it is possible to provide subsidies for the qualification of professionals in the field of Health education and of nursing work in general, thus favoring the care and self-care processes among elders.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa, realizada no município de Porto Alegre. Processou-se a caracterização sociodemográfica, dos 24 idosos selecionados aleatoriamente e entrevistados, e a análise temática das informações coletadas sobre o uso de práticas terapêuticas. Eram na maioria do sexo feminino, com média de idade de 68 anos e com quatro anos completos de estudo. A principal prática terapêutica referida foi a automedicação. Outra prática terapêutica referida foi a busca por um profissional médico. Considera-se que, por meio da análise e discussão crítica da temática, pode-se subsidiar a capacitação de profissionais no campo da Educação em saúde e do trabalho de Enfermagem em particular, favorecendo os processos de cuidado, autocuidado dos problemas da população idosa.En este se tuvo como objetivo conocer y comprender el uso de prácticas terapéuticas entre ancianos residentes en área urbana. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa realizada en el municipio de Puerto Alegre. Se procesó la caracterización socio-demográfica, de los 24 ancianos seleccionados aleatoriamente y entrevistados, y el análisis temático de las informaciones recolectadas sobre el uso de prácticas terapéuticas. Eran en su mayoría del sexo femenino, con promedio de edad de 68 años y con 4 años completos de estudio. La principal práctica terapéutica referida fue la automedicación. Otra práctica terapéutica referida fue la búsqueda de un profesional médico. Se considera que por medio del análisis y discusión crítica de la temática, se puede subsidiar la capacitación de profesionales en el campo de la Educación en salud y del trabajo de Enfermería en particular, favoreciendo, los procesos de cuidado, autocuidado de los problemas de la población anciana.Universidade de São Paulo.
