Resumo: In this paper I discuss oneiric processes in consciousness continuous stream having the sleep-wake cycle as reference and the relationship consciousness-unconsciousness as focus. Dreaming seems to be a suitable event for this type of analysis, since it may contribute to the understanding of consciousness. Consciousness in oneiric process and specially in dreaming, is considered as emerging from cultural and social elements in subjective construction. Dream role and meaning are considered from both personal and collective points of view in what the dream mantains relation to thinking and language, to personality and group development. In spite of the highly sensory and concrete characteristic of the oneiric process, it reveals and favors an articulated chain of meaningful personal history data. In dreams, time and space are abstract dimensions related to factual reality, pointing to the necessity of taking into account questions about the widening of consciousness, the role of dreaming in the psychic process as well as in human existence. As it occurs with other phenomena, one must keep in mind that these reflexions derive from references, observations about occidental adults.
