Resumo: | To think about the social consequences of the text and the emancipatory feature of literature was one of the greatest contributions of Antonio Candido to the literary theory —both in Brazil and in the world. Applying analysis techniques proposed by the critic, the article investigates the formation of a feminine tradition linked to the emergence of the novel. With this goal, Jane Austen’s work Persuasion was analysed. In its inner structure, the narrative brings a discussion about the place of the woman in an editorial context of masculine monopoly; during this debate, the voice of the writer, who faced the challenge of authorship, permeates the speech of the heroine, reflecting on the relations between gender and the control of the production of information and art. |
