Resumo: The main purpose of this paper is to discuss how the series of events that resulted in João Goulart’s deposition of Brazilian presidency, as well as in Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco’s rise as the new president were portrayed in the newspaper called Diário de Lisboa, one of the most famous Portuguese publications during this the period. From this perspective, the idea is to analyse how, based on the news, texts and strategies by which these events were reported, Brazil was seen and portrayed in Portugal. We take into account the difficult political relationship between both countries, considering that Brazilian foreign policy was contrary to Lusitanian overseas actions, not to mention the Portuguese government model, since the Iberian country was governed by Antonio Salazar, under the aegis of Estado Novo, since the early 1930s.
