Resumo: This article seeks to analyze how the relationship between two places - the Northeast and the favela – that were historically “invented” within a logic of exclusion, intertwine, not only metaphorically, but above all symbolically and discursively in their process of construction. For this, the chosen locus of the work is the set of favelas at The Maré in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a territory inhabited by northeastern migrants from its initial occupation to the present and, therefore, considered a doubly peripheral territory.
