Ivo Castro’s study (2007) on the genesis of Camilo Castelo Branco’s Amor de Perdição proved how the genetic analysis of both the autograph manuscript and the author revised editions is of the utmost interest for the knowledge about the work’s creation and the author’s writing processes. That seminal study, in the field of Camilo Castelo Branco genetic studies, paved the way for the appearance of multiple genetic studies on other works by this writer, which in turn led to the comparison of the writing types and practices between them. In this context, the present study focuses on the genetic dossier of Camilo Castelo Branco’s Novelas do Minho and intends to shed some light on how the physical characteristics of both the autograph manuscript and the first edition contribute for the understanding of the relation between Camilo and his writing, the rhythm of its production and the work’s planning. With genetic as its background, this study tries to characterize both Camilo’s writing process and the type of the compositional scenarios present in this novel’s genetic dossier.
