 Tuberculosis is one of the greatest health problems for wild animals kept in captivity. Non-human primates are the most commonly affected animals and much of the occurrences involves zoonotic transmission. The disease implies in great economic losses and stigmatization of the institution due to the complexities of its control. While in the countries of North America and Europe tuberculosis is treated as a priority, with countrywide strategies defined by law, in Brazil there is an almost complete omission regarding the disease, which leads to the emergence of local and unconnected strategies developed by the institutions keeping animals in captivity. Thus, this book tackles this issue from the perspective of preventive veterinary medicine, with emphasis on animal populations. Discusses since the historic aspects until the surveillance systems, with details of the etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis and Brazilian legislation, aiming to draw attention to the problem and inspire initiatives to address it in our country.
