Resumo: This study aimed to understand the meanings of caring for the child with heart disease for mothers of children hospitalized in a hospital in Belém, Pará. A clinical-qualitative study was carried out, and the participants were 06 mothers of children with congenital heart disease. The meanings revealed by the mothers dealt with aspects such as: the routine experienced in the hospital; caring for the child as the “duty” of the mother, permeated by worries and fear; feelings such as sadness and fatigue, as well as positive experiences, where mothers sought recovery of the health of their children. Thus, it is believed that analyzing the occupation of caring for children is relevant in the practice of Occupational Therapy, to better understand the maternal experience and propose strategies to facilitate the performance of occupations that are impaired in their daily lives.
