Resumo: This paper derives from the thesis presented in the VIII Master Program in History of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, which was entitled Villanueva and the Pavilion of Venezuela at the Expo 67: A Total Work of Art. This article studies the role that Jesús Soto had in the process of creation of a sculpture that was located in one of the cubes of the pavilion, detailing it from its conception to its development and realization, through all the collaborative work that Carlos Raul Villanueva led. Also, a study on the philosophical and artistic meanings and a revision on the concept of modernity, shown and hidden in the essence of the piece, are here presented.

Nele, procuramos analisar o papel de Jesús Soto na criação da escultura instalada em um dos estandes do pavilhão e detalhar sua concepção, desenvolvimento e execução, abordando, ainda, o trabalho colaborativo conduzido por Carlos Raúl Villanueva nesse processo. Por fim, propõe-se o estudo dos sentidos filosófico e artístico da ideia de modernidade e a revisão desse conceito, a fim de elucidar o modo como ele se apresenta e oculta na obra.Este escrito deriva de la tesis presentada en la VIII Maestría de Historia de la Arquitectura y del Urbanismo en la Universidad Central de Venezuela, titulada Villanueva y el Pabellón de Venezuela en la Expo 67: una obra de arte total. Aquí se estudia la labor que Jesús Soto tuvo en el proceso de creación de una escultura que se ubicó en uno de los cubos del pabellón, detallando su proceso de concepción, desarrollo y culminación, a lo largo del trabajo colaborativo que lideró Carlos Raúl Villanueva. Asimismo, se hace un estudio de los significados filosófico-artísticos y una revisión sobre el concepto de modernidad que se muestra y esconde en la esencia de la pieza.Universidade de São Paulo.
