Resumo: | This essay considers the ways in which Covid-19 has accelerated the crisis of the conference – for our purposes generally understood as a scientific-academic meeting. The pandemic has added a new dimension – the epidemiological – to economic, social and ecological criticisms that were already being formulated with regard to this type of event. On the other hand, conferences had, since the 19th century, a central role in the creation of a global network of academic development and cooperation. With the recent upsurge of denialist and xenophobic positions worldwide, it is imperative to preserve and even expand supranational interchanges. This essay seeks to draft possible alternatives to the traditional format of conferences, paying special attention to the fields of art and art history. |

Este ensaio propõe uma reflexão sobre o modo como a Covid-19 acelerou a crise da conferência – aqui entendida, genericamente, como uma reunião científico-acadêmica. A pandemia acrescentou uma nova dimensão – a epidemiológica – a críticas de ordem econômica, social e ecológica que já vinham sendo formuladas em relação a esse tipo de evento. Por outro lado, conferências tiveram, desde o século XIX, papel fulcral na criação de uma rede global de desenvolvimento e cooperação acadêmica. Com o recente recrudescimento de posturas negacionistas e xenófobas em distintas partes do mundo, cumpre preservar e mesmo expandir esses espaços supranacionais de intercâmbio. Neste ensaio busca-se rascunhar algumas possíveis alternativas ao formato tradicional da conferência, prestando especial atenção ao campo das artes e história da arte. Este ensayo propone una reflexión sobre como la Covid-19 aceleró la crisis de la conferencia – aquí entendida genéricamente como reunión científico-académica. La pandemia acreció una nueva dimensión – la epidemiológica – a criticas de orden económico, social y ecológico que venían siendo formuladas respecto a ese tipo de evento. Por otro lado, conferencias tuvieran, desde el siglo XIX, rol central en la creación de una red global de desarrollo y cooperación académica. Con el reciente incremento de posiciones negacionistas y xenófobas en distintas partes del mundo, cumple preservar e incluso expandir esos espacios supranacionales de intercambio. En este ensayo se intenta esbozar algunas alternativas posibles al formato tradicional de conferencia, concediendo especial atención al campo del arte e historia del arte. Universidade de São Paulo.
