Resumo: | The text presents a comparative analysis of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), North American, and Raul Lino (1879-1974), Portuguese – two nearly contemporary architects, each of them representatives of culture and society in their time, living space and working life. The article frames the historical and cultural context (background) of these authors’ 1st creative phase. In this context, it refers to the works of John Ruskin and William Morris, the Arts & Crafts movement creators, as well as, to the characteristics of this artistic movement – such as its derivations in the end of the nineteenth century in America and Europe – from Deutscher Werkbund to Sullivan and Berlage. Regarding Wright and Lino, this article presents their“understanding of the world”: their conceptual and architectural themes, as well as, the aesthetic and cultural associated movements – “Organic Architecture” and “Portuguese House”. The “six principles” of Wright and the “six principles” of Lino are presented and analyzed – highlighting the similar aspects in their conceptions. The text also describes and illustrates some of the topics and the architectural materials that define and are similar in the first phase of their works. The concept of the house is studied as a whole, their similarities and contrasts in tangible works of Wright and Lino. The text discusses and analyzes a partial theme in specific works of both authors and it ends with conclusive topics. |

Faz-se o enquadramento, refere-se o contexto históricocultural e os antecedentes da 1ª. época criativa destes autores. Neste quadro referem-se as obras de John Ruskin e de William Morris, criadores do Arts & Crafts, bem como as características deste movimento artístico – tal como as continuações do A&C, no final do séc XIX, na América e na Europa – da Deutscher Werkbund a Sullivan e a Berlage. Sobre Wright e Lino apresenta-se o seu “entendimento do mundo”: os seus temas conceptuais e arquitectónicos, bem como os movimentos estético-culturais associados – “Organic Architecture” e “Casa Portuguesa”. Apresentam-se e analisam-se os “seis princípios” de Wright e os “seis princípios” de Lino – salientando os aspectos comuns às concepções de ambos os autores. Descrevem-se e exemplificam-se alguns temas e materiais arquitectónicos definidores e comuns, na primeira fase das obras de Wright e de Lino – como o Arco redondo em tijolo nos vãos e a Lareira na sala principal. Estuda-se a concepção da casa, como um todo, nas suas semelhanças e contrastes, em obras concretas dos dois autores. Apresenta-se e analisa-se um tema parcial em obras específicas de ambos os autores: os arcos irradiantes e as arcarias de volta perfeita nos vãos da fachada; bem como o tratamento de uma peça concreta, a lareira. Termina-se com tópicos conclusivos.El texto hace un análisis comparativo de las obras de Raul Lino (1879-1974), portugués, y Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), de Estados Unidos- dos arquitectos (casi) contemporáneos, cada uno exponente de la cultura y la sociedad de su tiempo y de su espacio de vida y de trabajo.El artículo se refiere al contexto histórico y cultural del primer periodo creativo de estos autores. En este contexto trata de las obras de John Ruskin y William Morris, creadores del Arts & Crafts, así como de las características de este movimiento artístico, de las peculiaridades del Deutscher Werkbund y de los trabajos de Sullivan y Berlage. Acerca de Lino y Wright, este artículo presenta la “comprensión del mundo” que tenían: sus temas conceptuales y arquitectónicos, así como los movimientos estéticos y culturales asociados a sus trabajos - “Casa Portuguesa” y “Arquitectura Orgánica”. Se exponen y analizan los “seis principios” de Wright y los “seis principios” de Lino -destacando los aspectos comunes de las concepciones de ambos autores. Se describen y ejemplifican, también, algunos de los temas y materiales arquitectónicos comunes en la primera fase de las obras los arquitectos.
