O Medicalizing discourse and education: the subject at an impasse

Resumo: This article aims to present a reflection, from a dialogue with psychoanalysis in education, about the implications of the presence of medicalizing discourse in the school space. The medicalizing discourse, often spoken fluently by those concerned with education, brings with it numerous consequences to the educational bond, as well as to the subjects involved in it. For the analysis intended here, we use speeches by teachers from public and private schools, about the impacts of the presence of medicalizing discourse on teaching practice and daily school life. Pathologization of childhood behaviors, epidemics of diagnoses, construction of normality and abnormality patterns, increasing use of psychotropic drugs, as well as the decrease in teaching authority and involvement with the educational act, are some of the main aspects identified in our study.

El discurso medicalizante, hablado con fluidez por aquellos interesados ​​en la educación, trae consigo numerosas consecuencias para el vínculo educativo, así como para los sujetos involucrados en él. Para el análisis que se pretende aquí, utilizamos discursos de maestros de escuelas públicas y privadas, sobre los impactos de la presencia del discurso medicalizante en la práctica docente y la vida escolar diaria. La patologización de los comportamientos infantiles, las epidemias de diagnósticos, la construcción de patrones de normalidad y anormalidad, el aumento del uso de drogas psicotrópicas, así como la desautorización y la desimplicación de los maestros del acto educativo, son algunos de los principales aspectos identificados en nuestro estudio.O presente artigo visa apresentar uma reflexão, a partir do diálogo com aportes da psicanálise na educação, acerca das implicações da presença do discurso medicalizante no espaço escolar. O discurso medicalizante, muitas vezes proferido com fluência por aqueles que se ocupam da educação, traz consigo inúmeras consequências ao laço educativo, bem como aos sujeitos nele envolvidos. Para a análise aqui pretendida, valemo-nos de falas de professoras das redes pública e privada de ensino, acerca dos impactos da presença do discurso medicalizante à prática docente e ao cotidiano escolar.
