Resumo: Over the years, women have gained more space in Brazilian society; however, despite the Government's efforts (for example, by creating the "Maria da Penha Law"), the number of women victims of domestic violence in Brazil has not diminished. Throughout this article we will check what is behind this culture that "provides power" to men rather than women and how the media, particularly telenovelas in television, contribute to changes in behavior.
