Resumo: The text aims at reconstructing the trajectory of electronic multimedia ever since the first automation and numerical calculation discoveries in the 18th Century, in Europe, going through the creation of coded information world networks, during the Cold War, and finally arriving at the North American innovations, in the 70's, that resulted in the appearance of the Personal computer. The development of this technological universe confronts us with an informational society that spreads regardless of our wish or of our initiative. Thus, our best option is to know and dominate its technique and language, so we become less naive in this universe in which, whether we like it or not, we already participate.

O texto procura reconstituir o trajeto das multimídias eletrônicas a partir das primeiras descobertas de automação e cálculo numérico, no século XVIII, na Europa, passando pela criação das redes mundiais de informação codificada, durante a Guerra Fria, chegando às inovações norte-americanas da década de 70, que resultaram no aparecimento do computador pessoal. O desenvolvimento desse universo tecnológico nos coloca diante de uma sociedade informacional que se alastra independentemente de nossa vontade ou de nossa iniciativa. Assim, nossa melhor opção é o conhecimento e domínio da sua técnica e da sua linguagem, para nos tornarmos menos ingênuos diante desse universo do qual, queiramos ou não, já participamos.Universidade de São Paulo.
