Resumo: Balance disorders are one of the most prevalent signs in Parkinson's disease (PD) and are commonly associated to loss of independence. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a specific physical therapy training program on PD patients' static and dynamic balance. This controlled clinical trial assessed 23 patients with idiopathic PD, divided into experimental and control groups, by means of the Berg balance scale and the timed up-&-go test. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a eficácia de um programa de treinamento fisioterapêutico específico sobre o equilíbrio estático e dinâmico de pacientes com DP. Vinte e três pacientes com DP idiopática, divididos em dois grupos, experimental e controle, foram avaliados pela escala de equilíbrio funcional de Berg e pelo teste de levantar e caminhar cronometrado (timed up & go). O grupo experimental foi submetido a uma seqüência de exercícios fisioterapêuticos de estimulação motora e cognitiva, com freqüência de três atendimentos semanais durante seis meses.
