Prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in physiotherapists of the city of Londrina

Resumo: This study had the purpose of determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in physiotherapists of the city of Londrina.Participated in this study 170 physiotherapists that answered a self-administered questionnaire approaching the following aspects: personal data, job-factor survey, symptom related at work, treatment and it's consequences. For the analysis of the variables were used the qui-square Test with correction of Yates and the Test of Fisher. Of the 170 professionals studied 80% individuals were of the feminine gender and with an average of 30,5 years. Of the all researched physiotherapists, 94,1% reported to present musculoskeletal symptoms during the last twelve months and 75,3% in the last seven days. The highest prevalence were in the following anatomical areas: neck, low back and shoulders. Theprevalence of symptoms was larger in the feminine gender and younger individuals. Observed a highest prevalence of sympomts in professionals that work in areas like gerontology, dermato-functional and neurology and in professionals that worm at homes. For the treatment of the symptoms 46,3% they opted for the selt-treatment. Due to the symptoms 10% of the professionals lost days of work and 19,4% stopped accomplishing domestic services. The present study found a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in physiotherapists of the city of Londrina, during the last twelve months as for the last seven days precedents to the self-application of the questionnaire, mainly in the spine area. The data demonstrated that the researched physiotherapists meet exposed to physical and emotional loads. Before the found results, it is done necessary the elaboration and implantation of strategies to soften the work load and to avoid illness.

Participaram do estudo 170fisioterapeutas que responderam um questionário auto-aplicável abordando os seguintes aspectos: dados pessoais, atividades profissionais, sintomatologia relacionada ao trabalho, tratamento realizado e conseqüências da sintomatologia. Para a análise das variáveis foram utilizados o Teste de qui-quadrado com correção de Yates e o Teste de Fisher. Dos 170 profissionais estudados 80% constituíram-se indivíduos do gênero feminino e com uma média de idade de 30,5 anos. Do total de fisioterapeutas pesquisados, 94,1% relataram apresentar sintomas músculo-esqueléticos nos últimos doze meses e 75,3% nos últimos sete dias. As regiões anatômicas mais acometidasforam: coluna cervical, coluna lombar e ombros. A prevalência de sintomatologia foi maior no gênero feminino e indivíduos mais jovens.Verificou-se um maior predomínio de sintomatologia em profissionais queatuam nas áreas de gerontologia, dermato-funcional e neurologia e emprofissionais que atuam em domicílios. Para o tratamento dos sintomas, 46,3% optaram pelo autotratamento. Em decorrência da sintomatologiaapresentada, 10% dos profissionais relataram ter perdido dias de trabalho e 19,4% deixaram de realizar serviços domésticos. O presente estudoencontrou uma elevada prevalência de sintomatologia músculo-esquelética em fisioterapeutas da cidade de Londrina, com referência tanto aos últimos doze meses quanto aos últimos sete dias precedentes à auto-aplicação do questionário, principalmente na região de coluna vertebral. Os dados demonstraram que os fisioterapeutas pesquisados encontram-se expostos a cargas físicas e emocionais. Diante dos resultados encontrados, faz-se necessária a elaboração e implantaçãode estratégias para amenizar a carga de trabalho e evitar agravos.Universidade de São Paulo.
