Then the signature I(M4) is congruent to zero modulo 16\", and also, the Theorem of Kervaire and Milnor: \"Let M* be a compact oriented differentiable 4-manifold. Let ξ ε H2 (M,Z) be dual to the Stiefel-Whitney classe w2(M). If ξ is represented by a differentiably imbedded 2-sphere in M then, the self-intersection number ξ.ξ must be congruent to I(M) modulo 16\".
