Resumo: | Net-zero by 2050 is the big climate target driving the global clean transition and that focuses on mitigating CO2 emissions without impacting the energy supply, which has increased the natural gas demand due to its lower CO2 contributions, together with the implementation of CCS technologies worldwide. In the case of Brazil, although its energy mix is mostly renewable, its fossil fuel dependency is 51.9% of its total primary energy consumption. Hence, there is an opportunity for the natural gas use to grow in the country. Nevertheless, this growth may be conditioned by the lack of internal offer near the biggest consumers, as the case of the Southeastern Region. Consequently, this research conducted a prospectivity assessment of the black organic-rich shales of the Irati Formation for the co-development of shale gas as a natural gas source, and CO2 geological storage (CCS) as a CO2 mitigation solution in the Paraná basin, looking to select areas with the best potential in the State of São Paulo. As an innovation, this research methodology was based on data mining techniques that include ad hoc classification testing and machine learning algorithms, and a spatial data analysis that includes IDW interpolations; both techniques using as input organic geochemical parameters and ANP well information. The results comprise the validation of the source rock potential of the Irati Formation and a collection of regional hydrocarbon prospectivity maps of the Paraná Basin. Further, this research also verifies the suitability of the Irati Formation as a reservoir for the co-development of shale gas and CCS and proposes three areas that comply with the technical and environmental requirements in the regions of Presidente Prudente and Marília (SP), from which two areas are prospective for shale gas and CCS that combined represent 11,250 km2, and one area of 10,500 km2 that is only prospective for CCS. |
