Resumo: OBJECTIVE: This research was aimed at evaluating, through a literature review, the effects of the use of respiratory physiotherapy in children hospitalized with AVB.METHODS: The methodology used for this study was a systematic review of the literature, carried out through data collection in the databases BVS, Scielo, Pubmed, PeDro, Cochrane, Web of Science and Scopus. Initially, 202 articles were searched, of which, after careful analysis, 155 articles were excluded due to irrelevance and twenty-five for duplicity. Of the 22 articles eligible for full reading, eight articles were selected to prepare the review after considering the data collection and the applicability of the eligibility criteria.RESULTS: Eight articles were included, with a total of 702 participants: four randomized clinical trials, two prospective randomized controlled studies, one multicenter randomized controlled study, and one quasi-experimental study. The techniques analyzed were airway clearance, continuous positive airway pressure, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, and selective decubitus. The results showed reduced hospitalization time, improved oxygenation, decreased need for invasive ventilation, prevention of severe respiratory complications, and early recovery.CONCLUSIONS: Respiratory physiotherapy can reduce the severity of symptoms, improve lung function, and accelerate recovery, thereby decreasing hospitalization time. Additionally, airway clearance techniques improve the mobilization and removal of secretions, reducing airway obstruction and promoting better ventilation.
