Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To establish a functional and quality of life profile (QoL) of morbidly obese patients submitted to the Obesity Control and Surgery Program (PCCO) treated at the physiotherapy outpatient clinic of the Hospital Alberto Rassi (HGG).METHODS: A cross - sectional and descriptive study, composed of 155 obese patients. As instruments were applied the questionnaire QV Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health (SF36), International Physical Activity Questionnaire (QIAF), Functional Independence Measure (MIF), Visual Analogue Pain Scale (EVA) And the Medical Research Council (MRC). The analysis was performed from descriptive statistics and correlations.RESULTS: The prevalence was female, in middle age, being non-smoker and non-alcoholic and sedentary, where the predominance is of hypertensive patients. Of these, 118 reported pain during assessment, and the most reported painful body region were both knees (n = 35). For SF-36, patients have functional capacity deficit and physical aspects with below-average results. In MIF, most of them have a slight limitation of functional independence. There were negative correlations between age and QoL by capacity and functional independence in the basic activities of daily living (ABVD), Body Mass Index (BMI) and QoL by functional capacity in the studied population. Positive correlation with MRC in most SF-36 domains.CONCLUSIONS: The study indicates that worsening of QoL is correlated with higher BMI, greater age, reduction of global muscle strength, pain and mild functional disability in ABVD in morbidly obese individuals.
