Resumo: OBJECTIVE: Compare and correlate the practice time (PT), the physical activity (PA), body mass index (BMI) and quality of life (QoL) of elderly women who practiced different methods of exercises.METHODS: The sample was composed with 48 elderly who practiced exercises: water aerobics (n=15; 69.4±5.4 yeas-age); aerobics gymnastics (n=15; 64.6±7.9 years-age) and resistance training (RT) (n=18; 64.1±7.6 years-age). Anthropometric and the questionnaires: International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to assess the level of (PA) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) for QoL were used. ANOVA one-way or Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson correlation matrix were used in statistical analysis.RESULTS: For BMI, PA level and QoL variables, no differences (p<0.05) among groups were verified. For PT, the groups of Water and Gymnastics Aerobics showed differences (p<0.05) compared to RT. Statistic correlation for TP vs. walking/week frequency (r=0.55; p=0.03) and TP vs. vigorous activity/week frequency (r=0.57; p=0.03) in the water aerobics, besides, this latter correlation also occurred in gymnastics group (r=0.62; p=0.03).CONCLUSION: Water and gymnastics aerobics groups were higher PT compared with RT; however, to BMI and QoL variables no correlation or differences were evident. Although, there are some associations with PA variables, it is not possible to assert that TP of exercises determined the best results or associations for BMI and QoL variables

Although, there are some associations with PA variables, it is not possible to assert that TP of exercises determined the best results or associations for BMI and QoL variablesOBJETIVO: Comparar e correlacionar o tempo de prática (TP), o nível de atividade física (AF), índice de massa corporal (IMC) e qualidade de vida (QV) de mulheres idosas que praticavam diferentes modalidades de exercícios.MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta de 48 idosas que praticavam exercícios: hidroginástica (n=15; 69,4±5,4 anos); ginástica aeróbica (n=15; 64,6±7,9 anos) e treinamento resistido (TR) (n=18; 64,1±7,6 anos).
