Stress, quality of life and work: study with urban cleaning agents

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the presence of occupational stress, the level of quality of life of urban cleaning agents and the existence of correlation between occupational stress and quality of life with the age, income and working hours.METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study with the group of workers in the city of Patos-PB. The sample of the survey was composed of 45 urban cleaning. The data were collected through the use of a demographic questionnaire and of work, the Job Stress Scale (JSS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life – Bref (WHOQOL-Bref). Data analysis was performed from descriptive and inferential statistics.RESULTS: The quality of life presented positivity in General with average score of 75.83 points. However, between the areas, which showed the highest score was the physical (78.57 points) and the smaller the environmental domain (62.36 points). As for the occupational stress, the psychological demand was what showed lower score (2.36) and stress at work the highest score (3.45). By correlating the quality of life and the stress of workers with age, income and working hours, age correlated negatively with the physical domain (p =-0.31, p ≤ 0.05) and with the stress at work (p =-0.30, p ≤ 0.05).CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study show that the quality of life of the Group's median as well as indicated the older the worker less satisfaction with aspects of physical health and less stress at work.

A amostra da pesquisa foi composta por 45 garis. Os dados foram coletados mediante o uso de questionário sociodemográfico e do trabalho, do Job Stress Scale (JSS) e do World Health Organization Quality of Life – Bref (WHOQOL-Bref). A análise dos dados foi realizada a partir de estatística descritiva e inferencial. RESULTADOS: A qualidade de vida apresentou positividade em geral com escore médio de 75,83 pontos. Entre os domínios, o que apresentou maior escore foi o físico (78,57 pontos) e o menor o domínio ambiental (62,36 pontos). Quanto ao estresse ocupacional, a demanda psicológica foi o que apresentou menor pontuação (2,36) e o estresse no trabalho a maior pontuação (3,45).
