Quality of dental prosthetics offered in the basic health intetion and its impacts on life quality

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the quality of dental prostheses offered by the public health system and their impact on the quality of life of the users.METHODS: A Cross-sectional study, carried out in Caicó/RN, Brazil, between April and September from 2017. Clinical and sociodemographic data were obtained using a specific form, the oral health indicators according to criteria established by SB Brazil 2010 and the impact of oral health on quality of life using the validated instrument oral health impact profile-14. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 software using the chi-square and Fisher's exact tests, followed by Poisson regression for multivariate analysis.RESULTS: 127 participants were included and 188 dental prostheses were evaluated. 80.3% of the examined prostheses were inadequate. The higher prevalence of the impact of oral health on quality of life was associated with users with an inappropriate prosthesis (RPa:2,023/IC:1,300-3,150) and with low education (RPa:1,310/IC: 1,072-1,600), the lowest prevalence among those who used lower dental prosthesis (RPa:0,796/IC:0,682-0,930).CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of inadequate dental prostheses was high and reflects negatively on the subjects' quality of life. The higher prevalence of the impact of oral health on quality of life was associated with subjects with low education and users of inadequate prostheses. The lowest impact was associated with users who were rehabilitated with inferior dentures.

The lowest impact was associated with users who were rehabilitated with inferior dentures.OBJETIVO: Avaliar o impacto na qualidade de vida de usuários de próteses dentárias ofertadas na rede pública de saúde do município de Caicó, Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil.MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal, realizado em Caicó/RN, Brasil, entre abril e setembro de 2017. Os dados clínicos e sociodemográficos foram obtidos por formulário próprio, os indicadores de saúde bucal por critérios estabelecidos pelo SB Brasil 2010 e o impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida pelo instrumento validado oral health impact profile-14. Os dados foram analisados pelo software SPSS 17.0 com uso dos testes qui-quadrado e exato de Fisher, seguido de regressão de Poisson para análise multivariada.RESULTADOS: Foram incluídos 127 participantes e avaliadas 188 próteses dentárias. 80,3% das próteses examinadas estavam inadequadas. A maior prevalência do impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida esteve associada aos usuários com prótese inadequada (RPa:2,023/IC:1,300-3,150) e com baixa escolaridade (RPa:1,310/IC: 1,072-1,600), a menor prevalência entre aqueles que usavam prótese dentária inferior (RPa:0,796/IC:0,682-0,930).CONCLUSÕES: A prevalência de próteses dentárias inadequadas foi alta e reflete negativamente na qualidade de vida dos sujeitos. A maior prevalência do impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida esteve associada aos sujeitos com baixa escolaridade e os usuários de próteses inadequadas.
