Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To verify the systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels in elderly woman practicing regular Pilates, associated with lectures on health education, during five months of activities.METHODS: Quasi-experimental study with 81 elderly women (68.21±7.05 years). The participants were divided into Tercis, according to the number of activities: T1: 1 to 12 visits; T2: 13 to 24 visits; and T3: 25 to 36 visits. Blood pressure (BP) values were classified as: controlled pressure – systolic blood pressure (SBP) <140 mmHg and diastolic pressure (DBP) up to 90 mmHg, uncontrolled blood pressure (SBP>140 mmHg and DBP>90 mmHg). Socio-demographic data, comorbidities, lifestyle and number of medications were collected through a questionnaire. In addition, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were measured. Chi-square was used to compare nominal variables Statistical differences between groups were established by ANOVA Logistic regression analysis verified the effect of assiduity on SBP and controlled and uncontrolled DBP values. was α=0.05.RESULTS: Alcoholism, tobacco, and living alone had statistical significance levels (p≤0.5). There was a 17% odds ratio (OR) for controlled diastolic blood pressure levels for attendance at activities and a 58% chance for uncontrolled systolic blood pressure levels when there was no attendance at the activities.CONCLUSIONS: The control of blood pressure levels was directly proportional to the assiduity of the elderly in the practice of Pilates and the lectures on health education.
