Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the correlation between functional capacity and quality of life in liver transplant waiting lists for cirrhotics.METHODS: Cross-sectional study, performed at the Hospital de Base, São José do Rio Preto, SP. Cirrhotic patients under protocol for liver transplantation. Physiotherapeutic evaluation whas performed with sociodemographic data collection, etiology of cirrhosis, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score that specific the severity of liver disease and analysis of functional capacity through six-minute walk test (6MWT) and quality of life by the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire (CLDQ). Pearson's linear correlation test was applied and a level of statistical significance p≤0.05 was considered.RESULTS: Fifty-one cirrhotics, 33% with cirrhosis of C virus, 20% of cirrhosis with alcohol, 16% of non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis (NASH) and 31% cirrhosis due to other causes, mean age of 52.21±11.84 years and mean score were analyzed. MELD 17.3±4.7 points. The average distance covered in the 6MWT was 464.03±78.22 meters (82% of the predicted). There was a positive and significant correlation between the distance covered in the 6MWT and the domains abdominal symptoms (r=0.42; p=0.001), fatigue (r=0.37; p=0.007), emotional function (r=0.33; p=0.01) and the total score (r=0.43; p=0.001) of the CLDQ.CONCLUSIONS: Abdominal symptoms, fatigue and emotional function correlated with functional capacity and interfered with quality of life in cirrhotic patients on a liver transplant waiting list.
