Resumo: This evaluation of the implementation of the Speech Therapy Protocol of Tracheal Decannulation (SPTD) in patients with tracheostomy and traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the pursuit of reducing residence times with tracheostomy and hospitalization. Study and control with 30 patients suffering from TBI, confirmed by computed tomography, with 83.3 % males and 16.7 % females in both groups: two groups were formed. The age of patients ranged from 18 to 53 years, mean 32 years. In the study group was applied SPTD and the control group was analyzed the medical records of patients without speech evaluation. The results allowed concluding that the application of SPTD allowed an average reduction of 4.2 days spent with tracheostomy and 4.4 day reduction in length of hospital stay, without statistical significance. The anticipation of tracheal decannulation and reduced hospital stay reflect on the direct and indirect economic costs.

Foram constituídos dois grupos: de estudo e de controle com 30 pacientes acometidos por TCE, confirmado por tomografia axial computadorizada, sendo 83,3% do gênero masculino e 16,7% do gênero feminino, em ambos os grupos. A idade dos pacientes variou de 18 a 53 anos, com média de 32 anos. No grupo de estudo foi aplicado o PFDT e no grupo de controle foi analisado o prontuário médico de pacientes sem avaliação fonoaudiológica. A análise dos resultados possibilitou inferir que a aplicação do PFDT permitiu uma redução média de 4,2 dias de permanência com a traqueostomia e 4,4 dias de redução no tempo de internamento hospitalar, sem significância estatística.
