Resumo: | In “Sinhá Secada”, a short story included in Tutaméia (Terceiras Estórias) (1967), by João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967), the theme of the double is present in the split mother/son. Due to the fact of having been “supposedly” once unfaithful to her husband, they take her child away. This lack will never be filled in the young mother. During the pregnancy, she deeply lived the experience of having her own body and, concomitantly, her own being been split up. When they take her child away – the other –, metaphorically, they withdraw her soul, making her dry in and out. The cure only comes several years later, with the appearance of a boy who had suffered the same fate – the lack of the other represented by the figure of the mother. |

Unioeste2010-12-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://e-revista.unioeste.br/index.php/travessias/article/view/3998Travessias; Vol. 4 No. 3 (2010)Travessias; Vol. 4 Núm. 3 (2010)Travessias; v. 4 n. 3 (2010)1982-5935reponame:Travessias (Cascavel.
