Resumo: The present article, based on Psycholinguistics studies and Textual Linguistics, shows the results of a research on the effects of computer activities based on prediction on the reading comprehension of students from the 5th and 6th grades of the Elementary School. According to the pre-tests and post-tests, we have observed a meaningful improvement on their reading comprehension, after they have done the activities that had been prepared for this research and that can be found on the CD Estratégias de Leitura (Learning Strategies). These results indicate that the teaching of reading can really be improved by the use of activities based on the prediction strategy. Besides, they introduce other possibilities that can contribute for the learning of such abilities. Key words: reading, learning, reading strategies, predictability.
