Preschoolers’ behavioral problems in a Brazilian school-clinic as assessed by the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)

Resumo: The goal of this study was to characterize the population of preschool children who sought the psychological school-clinic at a public university in the state of Paraná in the period from August 2004 to May 2006. The data were collected through an identification record of the child and the CBCL (Child Behavior Checklist), versions of 1 ½ to 5 years and 4 to 18 years, which provides a behavioral profile through a computerized analysis. The research project’s participants were 103 mothers with children of preschool age (2 to 6 years), who were interviewed individually and asked to fill in the CBCL. The study corroborated data from previous research, since most of the children were in fact evaluated by the instrument as being clinical and maintained some characteristics, such as higher prevalence of male children and predominance of externalizing over internalizing behavior. Key words: preschool age children, child behavior checklist.O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar uma caracterização da população infantil pré-escolar que procurou a clínica-escola de psicologia de uma universidade pública no norte do Paraná no período de agosto de 2004 a maio de 2006. Utilizaram-se para coleta de dados uma ficha de identifica­ção da criança e o CBCL (Child Behavior Checklist), versão de 1½ a 5 anos e 4 a 18 anos, que fornece um perfil comportamental por meio de uma análise computadorizada. Participaram da pesquisa 103 mães com filhos em idade pré-escolar (2 a 6 anos) que foram entrevistadas individualmente e solicita­das a responder a lista de verificação comportamental. O estudo corroborou dados de pesquisas anteriores, uma vez que a maior parte das crianças fo­ram de fato avaliadas como clínicas pelo instrumento e mantiveram algu­mas características, como maior prevalência de crianças do sexo masculino e predomínio de comportamentos externalizantes sobre internalizantes.
