Treatment of trigeminal neuralgia in children: a systematic review

Introduction: Trigeminal neuralgia is the most common neuralgia, yet its incidence in children is rare. The treatments of choice are diverse and range from clinical to surgical treatment. Methodology: a systematic review was performed with searches in March 2023 through PubMed. The keywords used were “Trigeminal neuralgia”, “Pediatric” and “Children”. After the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 5 articles were selected. The PRISMA systematization scale was used to refine the results. Results: The studies showed that clinical treatment includes a variety of options, such as carbamazepine and pregabalin. As for surgical treatment, the results showed good effectiveness with microvascular decompression. However, a scarcity of studies was observed in the literature, presenting limitations and difficulty in obtaining data.
