Summary: The study sought to discuss the role of the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in the quality of education in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Monte-MG and had as its main objective to raise quantitative and qualitative evidence to investigate the perceptions of the management teams of state public schools regarding the IDEB in the Final Years of Elementary Education and the quality of education. The methodology consisted of a quantitative analysis of IDEB data, from its creation to the present day in the three schools. Subsequently, a structured interview was conducted with the managers, discussing their perceptions based on the literature. The results showed that the quality of education cannot only be measured by the IDEB, and that other variables should be considered for the results to be more reliable.

La metodología consistió en un análisis cuantitativo de los datos del IDEB, desde su creación hasta la actualidad en las tres escuelas. Posteriormente, se llevó a cabo una entrevista estructurada con los directivos, en la que se discutieron sus percepciones basadas en la literatura. Los resultados mostraron que la calidad de la educación no puede medirse únicamente por el IDEB, y que deben considerarse otras variables para que los resultados sean más fiables.O estudo buscou discutir o papel do Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (IDEB) na qualidade da educação no município de Santo Antônio do Monte- MG e teve como objetivo principal levantar evidências quantitativas e qualitativas para investigar as percepções das equipes gestoras das escolas estaduais da rede pública em relação ao IDEB nos Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental e a qualidade da educação. Posteriormente, foi realizada uma entrevista estruturada com os gestores, discutindo suas percepções a partir da literatura.
