Interdiciplinary Education And Sustainability In Business Administration Courses: Challenges And Perspectives

Resumo: The incorporation of education for sustainability in the formal curriculum as a tool that encourages individuals to reflection and action on the challenges of sustainability has proved to be a complex task in many different fields of knowledge. This is particularly evident when considering the structures of the curricula of traditional courses. This article aims to identify challenges for the incorporation of sustainability topics in business schools and verify how this influences the careers of undergraduates of a course in Business Administration focused on Environmental Management. The methodology process included sending a questionnaire to the first two graduating classes of the course and conducting a focus group for further discussion of the results collected in the first phase. The results show that students recognize the interdisciplinary practices as central elements in their training process, contributing to the development of professional skills for a manager compromised with environmental responsibility. The skills most mentioned by the undergraduates were working in teams and dealing with social actors. Moreover, research indicates a great challenge for these graduates. The market continues to understand the challenges of sustainability as technological one, disregarding the contribution of business administration professionals to overcome social and environmental problems. Therefore, the priority is to hire engineer’s technical professionals. In this context, the challenge is  much larger than just incorporate sustainability content in the business curriculum. It is also important to understand how managers committed to the social and environmental issues could be legitimated in order to their effective integration in organizations.

Esto es particularmente evidente cuando se consideran las estructuras de los planes de estudio de los cursos de administración tradicionales. Este artículo tiene como objetivo identificar los desafíos para la integración de la sostenibilidad en las escuelas de negocios y cómo esto influye en la carrera de los bachaler de un curso en Administración de Empresas con la línea específica de formación en Gestión Ambiental. La metodología consistió en el envío de un cuestionario a las dos primeras clases de concluintes del curso y la realización de un grupo focal para la discusión de los resultados recogidos en la primera fase. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes reconozcan las prácticas interdisciplinarias como elementos centrales en su proceso de formación, contribuyendo para  al desarrollo de competencias profesionales para un administrador comprometido con la responsabilidad ambiental. Las habilidades más citadas por los alumnos fueran trabajo en equipo y dialogar con distintos actores sociales. Por otra parte, la investigación indica un gran desafio para estos concluintes. El mercado sigue a comprender los retos de la sostenibilidad como un problema prioritario de carácter tecnológico en perjuicio de las competencias de gestión que lleva a una apreciación de los ingenieros y tecnólogos que trabajan en el campo de la sostenibilidad. En este contexto, el reto se muestra mucho más grande que la mera incopororación del contenido de la sostenibilidad en la formación de los futuros administradores, y si compreender como administradores pueden se legitimar de forma a asegurar su integración en las organizaciones. A incorporação da educação para a sustentabilidade nos currículos formais, como instrumento que estimule os indivíduos para a reflexão e a ação acerca dos desafios da sustentabilidade, tem se mostrado uma tarefa bastante complexa nos mais diferentes campos de conhecimento. Isto se evidencia, particularmente, quando se pensa nas estruturas dos currículos tradicionais dos cursos de administração. Este artigo tem como objetivo avaliar como uma proposta pedagógica interdisciplinar em um curso de administração com foco em sustentabilidade desenvolveu habilidades e competências para atuação profissional de seus egressos. A metodologia empregada incluiu o envio de um questionário para as duas primeiras turmas de formandos do curso e a realização de um grupo focal para aprofundamento dos resultados levantados na primeira fase. Os resultados mostram que os alunos reconhecem as práticas interdisciplinares como elementos centrais em seu processo de formação, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento de competências profissionais para um administrador com responsabilidade socioambiental. As competências mais mencionadas pelos egressos foram trabalho em equipe e negociação com atores sociais. Por outro lado, a pesquisa indica um grande desafio para estes egressos. O mercado continua a entender os desafios da sustentabilidade como um problema de caráter prioritariamente tecnológico, em detrimento das competências em gestão, levando a uma valorização de engenheiros e tecnólogos para atuar no campo da sustentabilidade. Nesse contexto, o desafio se mostra muito maior do que apenas incorporar conteúdos de sustentabilidade na formação de futuros administradores, mas sim entender como administradores comprometidos com a questão socioambiental podem se legitimar para viabilizar sua efetiva inserção nas organizações.
