This research, bibliographic, aims to discuss the importance of the play in the context of early childhood education, demonstrating their major contributions. The text is divided into two parts. At first, the author describes the importance of the play as a teaching strategy, using themes that portray the role of the school and the teacher's role in the context of playfulness and some methods and procedures that can be considered important for this practice. The second part discusses recreational alternatives in kindergarten, which were planned and suggested by the author. The results of the research show that the playful fundamentally contributes to the child's development, demonstrating the need for their incorporation into teaching practices. It is understandable, therefore, that such work may be relevant to the development of other studies in the area, taking as its starting point the suggestions made by the recreational alternatives.
