Public security is a right of all citizens and a duty of the state to develop public policies to guarantee its wide offer to all people, individually and collectively. The police are a body that acts directly in public security and often need to apply force to contain suspects who react negatively to their approach and put police and citizens at risk. This study was developed with the general objective of evaluating the progressive use of force by the military police in the face of criticisms regarding the armament necessary to exercise the profession. All the data collected indicates that there are criticisms both of the use of force and the lack of it, which would create a situation of insecurity, due to the fact that the offenders feel free to act without risk of being contained. It is essential that the topic be debated, considering its connection with the rights of all citizens to live in safety, associated with human rights that cannot be ignored, even in the case of an offender. Another point that deserves greater attention refers to the fact that police officers risk their lives every day to act for public security and, therefore, they may need to use force to protect themselves and their colleagues. Finding a way to protect all parties involved is the challenge that needs to be debated and for which solutions must be found.
