This work discusses how the use of rotary-wing aircraft can significantly boost air transport, the importance of its use, ranging from the historical concept to contemporary times. This research is characterized as exploratory, with an outline of bibliographic and documentary research, through documents, books, articles, regulations, electronic journals and technical manuals. Using qualitative and quantitative research as an approach. Through this research it is intended to analyze the importance of the rotary wing aircraft and the benefits brought to society since its implantation. The helicopter has become a popular vehicle due to its vast versatility, thus becoming a great aircraft to carry out the most diverse activities, from executive flights to deployment in the military and search and rescue areas. An approach is made to the performance and configuration of rotors for each type of activity, also presenting the advantages and disadvantages compared to other means of transport. It is concluded that rotary-wing aircraft proved to be very effective when introduced in emergency operations, search and rescue, fire fighting, military operations, public security, executive aviation, agricultural aviation, among others that are only possible to be performed due to the versatility of this incredible engineering work, compared to other means of transport.
