In this work the subject is the historical aspects, legal and ethical about the use of animals in scientific experiments, whose general objective is to analyze animal experiments and the methods that exist to reduce or not to use animals in scientific experiments. To achieve this, we used the method of deductive approach, starting with a historical overview and ethics, after seeking written rules to show how animal testing is conducted in Brazil and applied in our territory, explaining that laws governing the use of animals in scientific experiments as well as penalties. The research model used was literature, which were once used books and websites for their preparation. From the study it was found that yes there are alternative methods to animal experimentation and the use of these alternatives would advance science, achieving real success in the pursuit of desired results, and saving animals from pain and suffering experienced when they are manipulated as mere objects of research by experimenters.
