In addition to the aeronautical technological evolution, aviation has also evolved in relation to the way of work and the interaction between airlines due to the needs of the sector. Within this context of new working relationships between airlines to meet, the codeshare needs and demands emerged. Given the above, this study aims to investigate and understand how the codeshare technique can improve the cost benefit of an airline without having to open other routes. This narrative review included articles published as original study and freely available, limited to the English and Portuguese languages. The search for scientific production was performed through electronic databases. The selection of articles was performed by analyzing the titles and abstracts of articles with relevant potential in the databases. For the searches we used the following descriptors: codeshare; costs; sustainability. A search of the published literature, interpretation and critical analysis of the results was performed. Later, from the results, it was possible to perform an update and contextualization of the results. After analyzing the bibliographic selection we observed that in addition to the strategies used to achieve low cost and aircraft weight and thus reduce fuel consumption; Codeshare is cited as a strategy used by airlines to reduce costs as it allows the effective expansion of partner companies' flight networks without the need to purchase extra aircraft. It was concluded that despite the advances in technology and airline work strategies, further research in the area is still needed to address the industry's cost-benefit needs without considering sustainability factors.
