Resumo: The present study sought to identify the reasons by which a large part of workers does not use the individual protection equipment (IPE) during the development of their work. The approach was through a qualitative research, for this reason, we performed a case study in the region of Florianópolis, SC, by means of interviews with construction workers in construction works of builders and bus company. With the knowledge of such reasons may be taking actions with the purpose of increasing safety in the workplace and encourage the use of IPE as a way of prevention, thus benefiting the company and the workers. The results have been extremely positive once all the interviewees knew of their responsibilities in relation to the use of IPE, never ceased to use them for some reason and are properly supplied to them by the company.

A abordagem foi através de uma pesquisa qualitativa, para isso, efetuou-se um estudo de caso na região de Florianópolis, SC, por meio de entrevistas com trabalhadores da construção civil em canteiros de obras de construtoras e de empresa de ônibus. Com o conhecimento de tais motivos poderá ser tomada ações com proposito de aumentar a segurança do trabalho e incentivar o uso de EPI como forma de prevenção, sendo assim, beneficiar a empresa e os trabalhadores.
