The Brazilian cinema has seen an increasing number of views in the last decade, but it still has a small box office when compared to major international productions. And, this same issue is repeated in the broadcasting of films and national series in the programming of television stations and the provision of content on streaming platforms. As a result, the propagation of national culture has just been directly affected, which no longer has the prominence it should have, as well as affected the entire Brazilian population, which, in turn, ceases to be represented on the screens, with its cultural features lost and holding the possibility of enjoying the advances in the production of this art nationally, that is, not only from a social, but also an economic perspective. In the midst of this problem, the objective arose, through Animation Design and an animated short, to highlight the importance of national cinema as a way of preserving Brazilian culture and as a tool for identifying people with cinematographic productions. To this end, it was decided to promote, initially, a theoretical / bibliographical study of the connection between design and culture, national cinema and its barriers, the designer's contributions to animation and the principles of animation. field with the intention of understanding the motivations of the population's lack of interest in relation to national productions and, later, the animated short about the importance of national cinema as a form of cultural self-affirmation. For that, the research method of Prodanov and Freitas and the method of Bugay Animation Design were used. Thus, through the theoretical and field research that justified this project, it was understood, as a final result, the main reasons that distance people from national cinema, namely, the low offer and promotion when compared to other films and the phenomenon called “ foreignism ”, conception developed as a result of the strong influence that foreign contents, materials and thoughts end up projecting on the Brazilian population. Finally, through studies about animation design, it was possible to obtain the expected result, the conclusion of the animated short called “Discovering Another Cinema”.
