The workers health and safety transcends the workplace, and factors unrelated to the organization of work and the classic environmental risks, have an increasingly evident impact on Brazilian statistics. An example of this statement is the increasing evolution of commuting accidents, which are equated with occupational accidents by legislation. The study of the evolution of this type of accident and the enlightenment of its causes and consequences can contribute to the development of safer urban mobility policies for the entire population. An observational study, ecological type, was realized with a survey of secondary data on social security occupational accidents occurred in the period from 2009 to 2015 throughout the country. The results obtained showed an association between the growth in the number of commuting accident cases and the low level of socioeconomic development in the region, the low educational level of the workers, the age group of 20 to 30 years old and the male gender. As a result, this type of accident has mainly resulted in injuries to the hands and wrists, and the lower limbs.
