Civil construction is one of the most important sectors in the country, however, it is also the sector responsible for one of the highest rates of fatal work-related accidents. Regardless of the existence of the regulatory norms (“Normas Regulamentadoras”, or NRs), which seek to protect the worker, to reduce accidents, and benefit both companies and employees, many of the companies in this field still neglect its recommendations, provoking lack of attention from its laborers (through inadequate training), non-adequate use of PPEs, lack of inspection or use of obsolete equipment. Because of that, it was performed an analysis of the workplace safety regulatory norms NR 7, NR 9, and NR 18 in civil construction, as well as the calculation of the possible fines in the case of noncompliance, as fixed in the NR 28. This way, to accomplish this study about the costs and the implementation of the regulatory norms, their text was analyzed, to note the advantages brought on by their application, both to the business and its employees. Besides, a bibliographical research was made, based in articles, books, and publications, in a way to bring more familiarity with the theme. The intended conclusion is to reinforce the importance of knowing the norms in the civil construction field, especially to the engineer, demonstrating that their application brings advantages to the company and to its workers, to prevent and avoid accidents, improving the health of the laborers and sparing the company from fines and embargos.
