The construction sector in Brazil is one of the most impact in relation to waste generation. The constant growth of cities directly influences environmental changes. Attuned to this, this study aimed to diagnose the situation of environmental management practices in the building construction companies and developers in the city Tubarão (SC). For this study, secondary and primary data were used. For the collection of information questionnaires were applied to construction companies and developers in the city. Includes a total of ten questions addressed the following themes: the construction sector in which the company operates; if they have environmental management; certifications and standards applied in the company; sector responsible for environmental management, with emphasis on construction waste; environmental policy; environmental classification and management; professional responsible for environmental management; employee training; classification and importance of environmental management. The main results show that construction undertakings not apply, in most cases, environmental management systems and environmental management is also left out. Civil engineers are responsible for the management, especially of waste from construction and the same companies which fail to implement environmental management systems believe that it is very important for the company.
