It studies the representation of gender stereotypes in Librarianship. It aims to analyze the impacts caused by the perpetuation of gender stereotypes on brazilian women librarians in the 21st century, especially in their librarianship and daily activities in libraries linked to the Rede de Bibliotecas de Pesquisa (RBP) of the Ministério de Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovações e Comunicações (MCTIC). It uses the interview as a data collection technique and content analysis as an analysis technique. It points out that the social recognition of the profession is related to stereotypical images about women librarians, which, because it does not match the professional practice of these women, ends up compelling them to meet social demands, which are built on this stereotypical and distorted model of reality. It indicates that this model generates problems both for the insertion in the librarianship job market, in particular, and in society, in general. It considers that the gender inference in the profession exists, persists and permeates the lives of women librarians in leadership positions in the issues observed, although it is not always perceived by them.
