Information Science and freiriano thought: approaches through undergraduate course projects in the brazilian context

Paulo Freire is one of the most cited educators in the world, having worked in several countries and having his works translated into more than twenty languages. For the author, Education, as a political act, must be liberating, humanized and break down barriers between the oppressed and the oppressors. In this sense, the present work aims to analyze the Pedagogical Projects of Undergraduate Courses (PPC) in the area of Information (Archival Science, Librarianship, Information Science and Museology) identifying possible approximations with Freire's thought. The study was based on the projects of the active and ongoing graduation courses, with a relation obtained from the e-MEC portal. Based on these data, a survey was carried out on the website of each institution, in order to obtain documents. Afterwards, the projects, syllabus and bibliographies were read and analyzed, verifying the presence (or not) of the author and the possible contributions of his study to the constitution of new professionals. The study revealed that of the 80 active courses, 50 provided their PPC. In 16, Freire is mentioned, as an epigraph, didactic-pedagogical theoretical basis, syllabus, or bibliography. The study ends by pointing out that Freire is present in the PPC of the courses in the information area, but in a timid way. It is, therefore, suggested that events, actions and extension and improvement courses should be held for professionals and students, considering the theoretical and practical contributions that the author can offer to Information Science.
