Analysis of the perception of graduate students at the Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies (HRCA-USP) about the ethical aspects of dentistry

Resumo: Aiming at streamlining and guiding human conduct in professional activities, particularly in the dental profession, an Ethical Code of Dentistry (ECD) was elaborated in 1976 by the Federal Council of Dentistry with the purpose of educating and instructing professionals. It was not meant as a punitive instrument. Its understanding, however, is not easy, and an attempt was made to demonstrate this fact in the present work. The perceptions of dentists attending specialization courses at the Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies (HRCA-USP) about the ethical aspects of dentistry were assessed through the application of a questionnaire with structured questions, divided into two parts: the first part covered identification of the sample, and the second part covered questions inherent to the content of the articles of the Ethical Code of Dentistry. The results permited to conclude that there are doubts about the interpretation of some articles of the ECD and that a better professional orientation is needed for the correct understanding of the Ethical Code of Dentistry.

Entretanto, sua compreensão não é simplória, o que se procurou demonstrar neste trabalho. Analisou-se a percepção dos cirurgiões-dentistas, alunos de cursos de especialização do Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais da Universidade de São Paulo (HRACUSP), sobre os aspectos éticos da odontologia, por meio de questionário com questões estruturadas e dividido em duas partes: a primeira relativa à identificação da amostra e a segunda parte relativa a questões inerentes ao conteúdo de artigos do Código de Ética Odontológica.
