Endodontics at the undergraduate level with presence teaching and distance support: a motivational strategy for individual study

Resumo: This study evaluated the performances of 29 students from the first Endodontics class that was given through presence teaching and distance support, based on the TelEduc educational platform, at the São Leopoldo Mandic Dentistry College, Campinas, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. The college offered a desktop computer for each student. The developed didactic material included the professor’s slides, printed summaries of lessons, links to sites with approved contents, frequently asked questions, guidelines for developing papers, tests and interactive animated tutorials de veloped for the proposed medium. The students’ performance results were compared to the number of times they accessed the didactic material. In the beginning of the course, students were recommended to access the didactic material at least 2 times weekly, totalling 40 acccess instances at the end of the 20 weeks of the subject. The approved students reached an average of 91.5 access instances, representing an access count 128.75% greater than the minimum required.

The approved students reached an average of 91.5 access instances, representing an access count 128.75% greater than the minimum required.Este trabalho avaliou o desempenho dos 29 alunos da primeira turma de Endodontia do curso de Graduação em Odontologia da Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, Campinas – São Paulo, que contou com o ensino presencial suportado pela disponibilização de conteúdos em plataforma educacional TelEduc. A sala de aula foi projetada para que cada aluno tivesse acesso a um computador desktop. O material de apoio desenvolvido somou “slides” do professor, apostilas, links para sites de conteúdos aprovados, perguntas freqüentes, diretrizes para o desenvolvimento de trabalhos, avaliações e tutoriais animados projetados de maneira interativa e sob aspectos educacionais adequados à mídia proposta. O resultado apresentado no desempenho dos alunos foi comparado com o número de acessos ao material de apoio. O sugerido no início do curso foi de, pelo menos, 2 acessos semanais, totalizando 40 acessos ao final das 20 semanas da disciplina.
