Labor Dentistry and the Health Unified System – a reflection

Resumo: Actions to promote, to protect and to recover the health of workers have been ensured by Law 8.080 since 1990. However, the guidelines of the SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde – Unified Health System) have been neglected, mainly regarding oral health of adult population. This paper considers the role of a new dental speciality, labor dentistry, and the context to which it must adapt itself to make an important social contribution. An analysis of its functions was conducted about what would be the role of the new speciality among the health specialities in the Unified Health System, which is still ongoing.

No entanto, o atendimento das diretrizes do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) tem sido negligenciado, principalmente quando se analisa a saúde bucal da população adulta. Este artigo faz uma reflexão sobre o papel da nova especialidade Odontologia do Trabalho e o contexto no qual deve se adaptar para uma maior contribuição social.
