Dentist’s training in Ceará dentistry courses

Resumo: The present study constitutes a documental research conducted in the year of 2006, in the dentistry courses of the Universidade Federal do Ceará – UFC and Universidade de Fortaleza – UNIFOR. It sought to learn more about the Political and Teaching Projects (PPP) adopted to train dentists in undergraduate dentistry courses, to relate the curriculum structure previously adopted in the undergraduate courses to the new curriculum guidelines proposed by the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDB), and to identify the changes that have occurred. The documents mapped were organized and interpreted using the following topics: mission of the course, guiding principles, professional profile, curriculum guidelines and curriculum structure. It was observed that the dentistry courses are accomplishing their curriculum reforms, seeking to adapt to the new National Curriculum Guidelines, and to adapt the training of their professionals, so that they can assist the population in meeting its health needs. The courses mapped and analyzed here are experiencing a historical moment of change in the dentist’s training, facing the challenge of transitioning from a teaching model centered on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases to another centered on the promotion of health and prevention of these diseases.

Procurou-se conhecer os projetos político-pedagógicos – PPP adotados para a formação do cirurgião-dentista nos cursos de graduação; relacionar a estrutura curricular anteriormente adotada nos cursos de graduação com as novas Diretrizes Curriculares propostas pela Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional – LDB/96 e identificar as mudanças ocorridas. Os documentos mapeados foram organizados e interpretados utilizando os seguintes tópicos: missão do curso, princípios norteadores, perfil profissiográfico, diretrizes curriculares e estrutura curricular.
